Bugs as food

Yep, I did it.
My friends behind the counter at Don Bugito told me they'd taste like potato chips-- they in this case being Wax Moth Larvae in a taco-- and that wasn't entirely wrong. There was also a roasted nutty quality, a little smoky and offset by a creamy soft queso. Not bad.
Look, the decision was not an easy one. But at a certain point I couldn't, uh, chicken out. It would be fair to say more people at the SF Off the Grid night were in line for the neighboring barbecue rice bowls. I, along with many others, were stopping to take a picture and move on. Somehow it didn't sit right. I had to cross over. Getting my courage up involved a trip to the Magnolia Brewery's stand for a cold one to wash down my bugs. Thus equipped, I went and did it.
Afterward, Michelle wouldn't kiss me. Can you blame her?
