Serpentine
Michelle and I have been low rotation regulars at Serpentine since shortly after they opened a couple years back. We keep making the journey down Third Street in Dogpatch because the food is a solid good and most of the entrée choices are sub-$20. Our friend was Dave in town so it was nice to sit down over a familiar table. I’ll admit to being a sucker for the repurposed industrial space they’ve taken over on the south end of an enormous warehouse. Be warned the same industrial charm doesn’t do much to absorb the sound so it’s sometimes loud in there. And Serpentine is no longer a hidden gem and you’re going to have a bit of noise. If you’re still interested then this could be the place for you. They’ve got a dry Cremant d’Alsace (bubbly rose) well worth the $11 a glass. Recently they’ve added a half bottle of Narvarro Ancient Method Pinot Noir. At $24 this Pinot drinks like something at double the price. (Navarro deserves it’s own blog really but you would do worse that to go here www.navarrowine.com and have some delivered.) It’s heirloom tomato season and their salad with Persian cucumbers and pepitas (pumpkin seeds) was really fresh. Michelle, had a corn and fennel soup which she enjoyed. And our friend Dave had a peach and nectarine salad with little gems and pancetta. Honestly I go for the burger. It’s one of those places where you get a favorite item and wind up going back for it. Should someone from Serpentine come across this blog, please bring back the roasted brussel sprouts. We miss them. Go some time for a late lunch or an early dinner so you can sit at the bar in the late day sun. Sit at the bar and pass the time. You won’t be sorry.
